Jammu, Oct 7: The state Estates department is likely to start the construction of proposed additional accommodations for Darbar move employees in capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu this fiscal.
Sources in the department said that the construction works would be taken up in two phases at the already identified sites in the two capital cities.
 In the first phase the construction work on flatted accommodation would be started at Nishat and Gupkar in the summer capital Srinagar, while in Jammu the construction would be taken up in the second phase at the identified sites at Bhatindi and Sidhara, sources                      said.
They further said that in Srinagar the department has acquired  51 kanal of land at Nishat and 35 kanal  at Gupkar and the some funds for initiating the construction work have also been released by the state government .
In Jammu about 400 to 500 flats would be constructed over 100 kanal land owned by Jammu Development Authority (JDA) at Sidhara and 17 kanal custodian department land at Bhatindi. 
Sources further said that a high level committee constituted for acquiring the land has already negotiated the rates with the concerned departments.
When contacted, the deputy director Estate Department Arun Manhas said “The process of acquisition of identified land in Jammu is on and all other modalities in this regard will be completed after darbar move”
He further informed that at present the Estate Department has a total of 3167 residential accommodations for darbar move employees in Jammu. Department is trying to create its own assets to overcome the shortfall and avoid huge expense incurred for arranging the accommodation for the employees every year, he added.
 He said that with the shortage of land in capital cities of the state, Estates Department is contemplating to go for multi storey accommodation as government has relaxed the building construction norms up to 14 floors.
